Abahani Limited Dhaka won the battle of prestige as they blanked arch-rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited 2-0 in the Bangladesh Premier League at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Comilla Friday.

Brazilian forward Peter Nworah and Costa Rican forward Daniel Colindres scored in each half to secure Abahani's facile victory on the day, reports BSS.

Abahani went on the attack and got early rewards when Nworah netted the first goal for his team in the 12th minute.

With a 1-0 lead, Abahani came to the field in a more organized way in the second half and kept their pressure on Mohammedan, creating some goalscoring chances.

Colindres doubled the lead for the Sky Blues in the 58th minute.

Mohammedan tried their best to stage a fightback in the match, but were unable to convert any opportunity in the remaining proceedings.

Abahani dominated and notched a deserving victory while Mohammedan were off-color.

The day's win saw the popular Dhanmondi outfit raise their tally to 15 points from seven matches while the Motijheel side, who are struggling to improve their position in the points table, remained at their previous collection of six points playing six matches.

In today's matches, Bashundhara Kings will take on Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra at Bashundhara Sports Complex while Fortis Football Club face Bangladesh Police FC at Rajshahi District Stadium.

Both the matches will kick off at 3:30pm.
