Afia Prottasha said the fondness for power hitting, a glimpse of which she exhibited in the ongoing U-19 Twenty20 World Cup so far, had its root from her childhood.
The 19-year old opening batsman hit more sixes (three) than anyone in Monday's match against Sri Lanka where Bangladesh won by 10 runs.
Prottasha also struck five boundaries during her 53-run innings that came from 43 balls.
She also struck two sixes and as many fours against Australia in the first match.
“I like power hitting since my childhood,” Afia said through a video message released by Bangladesh Cricket Board.
“After I joined the U-19 camp, the coaches found this talent in me. That is why they worked something extraordinary on me from where I started playing powerful shots,” she added.
With Misty Shaha, Prottasha put on a 75-run opening partnership against the Lankans that helped the girls in red and green post a total of 165 runs losing only two wickets.
“I was trying to stay as long as possible when I was batting. I was also trying to build up a long partnership. That's what I was saying to my partner on the pitch,” she said.
“I feel really good. Grace to God that we are doing something for the country. I'm playing well and hopefully I'll do better in future.”
Bangladesh will now face USA Wednesday.
A confident Afia hoped, “We are in a good shape. Hopefully we will do something good in the upcoming matches as well.”
