Bangladesh Football Federation said it would give all-out effort to get British-Bangladeshi footballer Hamza Choudhury playing for Bangladesh in red and green jersey.
During a latest interview that went viral on social media, Hamza said his father “talks and keeps a link together with the BFF” regarding him playing for Bangladesh in future.
BFF also admitted to Dhaka Tribune that they built a link with family members of Hamza.
“We will try on our own. We are also trying through his family members,” said BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag.
He added, “It’s progressing after the federation started talking with his family members. I can’t tell details now.
“We are giving all-out effort. There is no shortage of interest and initiative from our side – dealing with it professionally and personally. The value he [Hamza] will add to our national team would be undoubtedly beneficial for us. We will try our best to get him.”
Hamza first started flirting with the idea of playing for Bangladesh during an interview with a national daily three years ago when he said he would feel good if he plays in Bangladesh jersey.
The 25-year old reinstated his interest to play for Bangladesh last month.
This time he spoke to Anwar Uddin MBE, the first British-Bangladeshi to play English professional football.
Bangladesh football’s governing body started knocking at Hamza’s parents club Leicester City soon after the midfielder revealed his interest three years ago, but with no response at that time.
After last month’s development, the BFF emailed to Leicester once again.
This time the English Premier League club only acknowledged the mail.
“They never acknowledged our letters before but this time they replied. They replied that they received our mail and would let us know if there is any feedback. We gave a further reminder yesterday (Monday),” said Shohag.
Hamza is a former England U-21 international and has Bangladeshi and Grenadian heritage.
He has enjoyed Bangladeshi upbringing, and is the only British-Bangladeshi ever to play Premier League football.
