Bangladesh U-17 football team's hopes of playing the final of the Saff U-17 Championship were shattered as they suffered a 1-2 defeat to India in the first semi-final Monday at Racecourse Ground in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
After a barren first half, Gangte finally broke the deadlock for India in the 51st minute before doubling the lead in the 59th minute.
Bangladesh’s Mirajul Islam reduced the arrears from a penalty in the 63rd minute.
Earlier, Bangladesh thrashed hosts Sri Lanka 5-1 in their opening Group A match before blanking the Maldives 5-0 to confirm their semi-final spot as group champions.
Group B runners-up India started the tournament with a 3-0 win over Bhutan, but went down to a 1-3 loss to Nepal in their second group match.
