Zahid looks to quadruple

Update : 14 Jun 2013, 05:29 PM
Zahid Hossain, one of the major factors in Sheikh Russell’s treble winning campaign this season, was uncertain for the Super Cup opener due to an ankle injury, but the national winger passed a late fitness test and scored a brilliant goal to seal  victory against Feni yesterday.  Zahid, who scored six goals in the Bangladesh League, is looking forward to Russell’s next match against Muktijoddha and hopeful of further success.  “We earned 3 points, which is the important part. Now all we need to do is win the next match against Muktijoddha and qualify for the semis and then win the final to manage the Super Cup,” said Zahid after the game. Maruful Haque believes they could have scored more than just two goals and praised Feni’s goalie Masud Rana. He also seemed to be satisfied to be playing without foreign players and praised his local stars.  “We have many match winners in our team to win any match. Today, our left back Nahidul Islam was the one to create the first goal opportunity, rather than the likes of Ameli or Mithun.  “We created many chances today but we were unable to score any because of some solid performances from the opponent goalie,” said the coach.  Despite the loss, Feni coach Mir Faruq was happy with his team’s performance. “Russell are a lot superior side than our team so considering that, I believe we played really well. Unfortunately, our team lost their concentration which was lucky for them.”
