Former national midfielder and Sheikh Jamal skipper Enamul Haque Sharif, 32, has announced he will retire from professional football at the end of the upcoming Super Cup. Sharif started his career with Victoria in 2000 in the first division and after playing there for two years, he joined Sheikh Russell for one season. His best period came at Mohammedan, starting in 2005. Afterwards, he joined Sheikh Jamal in the 2011/12 season. Sharif had a good time with Jamal in his first year, when the Dhanmondi based club won the premier league title, but injury forced him out of the first team for most of the last season. He only played two games in the last season. "Even if I recover from injury after surgery, I have to work hard to get back my fitness and put extra work to be back in form, but now it is not possible for me," said Sharif while revealing his decision to reporters yesterday. "I suffered a knee injury during the middle of the league. After that, I tried hard to recover but I am not such a player who can continue the game after recovering from injury. I told to my club officials about retirement and I wish to play my last game in the forthcoming Super Cup," he added. Sharif was called to the Under-19 national team in 2003. After that, he played for senior national team from 2006 to 2010. "I spent seven years with Mohammedan and this club gave me the chance to prove myself, but my current club gave me the honour I deserved and I want to quit football by wearing the yellow-green jersey," he said.
