Sony set for English trial

Update : 07 May 2013, 04:10 PM

After losing a bunch of local national stars from their treble winning squad, Shiekh Russell are set to lose their crucial Haitian forward Sony Norde, who is likely to move to English football. If he moves to England, yesterday’s match against Feni Soccer Club could well be the bitter farewell Sony wanted. The last game of the season saw the Haitian sent-off in injury time, possibly the last time he wore the Russell shirt. "I have options in Indonesia and Mexico, but there is no chance of playing in Indonesia. I will go to Europe (England) in three weeks to talk to a second division club," said Sony Norde after yesterday’s match. Sony mentioned a move to an English second division club is likely, but due to his broken English pronunciation it was, however, not clear what the name of the club is. The striker said the name was ‘Black Bloom’, but there are no club under the name in either first, second or third division. "I have one agent who played before in Stoke City and one year in Tottenham (Hotspur). He asked me to go over there for one-week trial," he added. "Sheikh Jamal and Mohammedan did contact me to join their club for the next season. I like Sheikh Jamal, but I prefer more to go to Europe and play. I like Europe for good football, good league." Sony said that he enjoyed his season with Sheikh Russell but will not continue with the club. But he said there is still chance to come back to Bangladesh premier league. "I enjoyed my time with Sheikh Russell. All the players are good, the coach was very helpful, I also like the people and the country," said Norde. He will go back to his home in a week and also hinted that if he returns to Bangladesh he could join Sheikh Jamal. "I will always remember Bangladesh. All people say that cricket is number one sport in here, but football is same and it's even better now. If people come more to stadium to watch football it will get better. I expect next season more people will come to the stadium." Meanwhile, Russell winger Jahid Hossain, after his last match with the club yesterday, hinted that his current Russell team-mates Mamun Mia, Shakil, Arif, Arup Baiddya, Emon Babu and Nahid are likely to join him at his new address Mohammedan Sporting Club.
