Bangladesh men’s national football team showed some good resistance and performance but lost to the much-higher ranked Palestine 2-0 in the three-nation tournament in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan Sunday.
Palestine striker Layth Kharoub scored in the 34th minute before defender Yasir Hamd netted the second in the 46th minute.
Bangladesh tried with a three-man defence to zonal mark and resist the stronger opponents.
Bangladesh goalkeeper Shahidul Alam Sohel made a good save in the 15th minute but Kharoub broke the deadlock when he converted a Mahmoud Eid chip.
Sohel however, made another good save as he fisted away a strong header off the corner in the 38th minute.
Palestine missed a chance in the 42nd minute when a shot went outside the post and Sohel parried a strong shot in the 45th minute.
But Palestine got the important second goal just after the break as Hamd made an inch perfect header off an Eid cross.
However, the Jamie Day-coached side showed stubborn resistance in the remaining minutes.
Jamie also deployed Rahbar Wahed Khan, who plays in semi-professional league in Canada, and the attacking midfielder looked impressive in the last 10 minutes.
Bangladesh will take on hosts Kyrgyzstan Tuesday.
