Former star national footballer and renowned sports organizer Badal Roy breathed his last Sunday evening at 5:35pm due to liver cancer.
He was 61.
He left behind his wife, one son and one daughter and countless well wishers to mourn his passing away.
One of the country’s popular footballers in the yesteryears, Badal was suffering from severe health issues for the last couple of years, and was recently diagnosed with stage four liver cancer.
The National Sports Award winner was admitted to the Square Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit last week, after being transferred from Asghar Ali Hospital.
He was then shifted to Bangladesh Medical College and Hospital recently for dialysis.
Previously, he survived brain haemorrhage following a couple of successful surgeries at Gleneagles Hospital and Medical Center in Singapore in 2017 after receiving financial assistance from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He also battled Covid-19 infection in August this year.
Badal, a Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited legend, is considered one of the finest attacking midfielders in the 1980s.

He played for the national team from 1981 to 1986.
He represented Mohammedan in his entire Dhaka League career from 1977 until 1989, and won the league five times in Black and White jersey.
He played and managed Mohammedan and played a vital role in reorganizing the traditional outfit when its governing body faced serious crisis from casino scandal last year.
He also served as vice-president of Bangladesh Football Federation for three times since 2008 and ran for president post against Kazi Salahuddin during the previous election.
He was also the sports secretary of Dhaka University and former president of Sonali Otit Club, Dhaka.
He won the National Sports Award in 2009.
Following his demise, different federations, organizations and communities from the sports arena expressed deep sadness and prayed for the salvation of his departed soul
