14 booters Covid-19 negative as camp begins

The men in red and green will take on Nepal in the Fifa international week on November 13 and 17 in Dhaka

A total of 14 footballers out of the 36-member national team squad for next month’s friendlies against Nepal tested Covid-19 negative before joining the national camp that began Friday with the reporting at Fars Hotel and Resorts in Dhaka.

The men in red and green will take on Nepal in the Fifa international week on November 13 and 17 at Bangabandhu National Stadium.

The players who tested negative for the novel coronavirus are Mohammad Mohsin, Pappu Hossain, Sohel Rana, Rayhan Hasan, Rahmat Mia, Nazmul Islam, Mathews Bablu, Sumon Reza, Faisal Ahmed, Manik Hossain, Mohammad Abdullah, Yeasin Arafat, Mamunul Islam and Ashraful Islam.

Among the remaining 22 members of the squad, 14 players from top-flight champion Bashundhara Kings will join the camp later this month provided they test Covid-19 negative.

Of the rest of the eight booters of the squad, Shahidul Alam will join the camp later while Arifur Rahman, Riyadul Hasan, Rakib Hossain, Tutul Hossain Badshah, Manjurur Rahman, Nabib Newaj and Saad Uddin are awaiting their Covid-19 results.

Should they test negative, the seven players will join the camp.

The Kings began their practice camp in September and continued it till the middle of this month, following which the players went on holiday.

Among the 14 Kings players who were scheduled to join the camp, 12 will report Tuesday, while long-term injury absentees Matin Mia and Masuk Mia will not join anytime soon due to their recovery period.

Until the arrival of head coach Jamie Day and his assistant Stuart Watkiss, the players at the camp will undergo fitness training.
