AKM Nowsheruzzaman, a player of the historic Swadhin Bangla Football Team and also a former cricketer, died on Monday night. He was 72. He left behind a son and a daughter.
The veteran player, who was a very popular sports person, had been diagnosed with Covid-19 virus and was admitted in Ibn Sina Hospital of the capital. He was in the life support for last ten days and breathed his last on around 8:30, informed his brother AFM Badiuzzaman.
His first Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at Bangabandhu National Stadium of Dhaka at 10 am Tuesday. A second Janaza will take place at his birthplace Munshiganj Sadar. He will be laid to rest in Matlab, Chandpur.
Nowsheruzzaman, the forward of the Swadhin Bangla Football Team, was a blue of Dhaka University, played for national football team and featured for popular outfits like Dhaka Mohammedan, Victoria SC, Dhaka Wanderers Club, Wari Club and Wapda.
However, he was mostly known as a legendary sportsman for Mohammedan. He scored record number of goals in a single season for the traditional outfits and used to open the batting while playing cricket for the club along with another legendary cricketer Raquibul Hasan.
