Bangladesh Football Federation has renewed the contract with national team head coach Jamie Day for two more years and the news made his disciples ecstatic.
Day, who took charge of the national side in May 2018, extended his contract for one more year in 2019 and now, after a three-month hiatus for the coronavirus pandemic, has renewed the contract from August 14, 2020 to August 14, 2022.
The British coach, who joined the side in a tough time, has been rather successful as, under him, the side have won eight matches, lost nine and drew two but the most important thing is the clear sign of improvement.
Bangladesh had the perennial problem of losing stamina in the later stage of a match but Day’s charges maintain that till the end and the general level of players’ fitness has improved significantly.
National team’s experienced defender Topu Barman was very happy hearing the news.
"It is great for all of us. We are accustomed with his style. I have played under many coaches and I can say Day is one of the friendliest with his players. We are frank with him about sharing any problem but he never compromises with discipline and is very alert about fitness all the time,” said Topu.
Topu’s teammate, midfielder Sohel Rana also echoed the sentiment.
“Day is a good coach. We have very good understanding. I hope we will improve a lot under him in the next two years. We need long-term plan for success and this is a good move," said Sohel.
Day, the 40-year old English coach, belongs to a school of thought of coaching that believes on setting the strategy in a game considering opponents’ strength and weaknesses.
Sohel hailed the ability of his coach about reading the game situation and also thinks the coach has the capacity of bringing out the best from any player.
Goalkeeper Ashraful Islam Rana was also very joyous with the news.
“It is a great news for us. He always takes cares of us. He not only instructs us through whatsapp but also closely follows them up. Under him we will go a long way in future,” said Rana.
