Inter Milan’s Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen is the toughest player Jamal Bhuiyan has played against, admitted the Bangladesh football team captain during the debut episode of the DT Locker Room on Monday night.
The Denmark-born Bangladesh midfielder was present as first guest of DT Locker Room, an initiative to catch up sports personalities live on facebook. Jamal shared his experience of facing Eriksen while asked about his toughest opponent.
“I have played against many good players in my career. But the toughest player was Christian Eriksen. Before the match the coach said, ‘their number 10 is very good player. You are one year younger than him, so you have to take care of him’. I thought at that time I could take care any player against me. So I replied to my coach, ‘don’t worry coach, I will take him,”
“And after 10 minutes of the game he (Eriksen) scored two goals and I was like wow this guy is amazing. After may be one month Ajax Amsterdam bought Eriksen. Then he played for Tottenham Hotspurs and now he is now in Inter Milan. So I think he is the best player I have played against.” said the 30-year-old midfielder. Jamal was playing for C Copenhage and Eriksen was Odense Boldklub durign that incident.
After spending youth career at Brondby and FC Copenhagen and other clubs in Danish lower division, Jamal, now Saif Sporting captain, made his Bangladesh debut in August 2013 becoming the first non-resident footballer to do so.
Since then the 30-year-old midfielder became quite a regular pick for men in Red and Green while plying his trades at Bangladesh Premier League clubs Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra.
Jamal also mentioned his two national teammates Nabib Newaz Jibon and Raihan Hasan as favourite mates off the pitch while hailed Saif youngsters Yeasin and Fahim as he believes these two will become the future stars.
Jamal, whose parents migrated to Denmark in the late sixties, has been captaining Bangladesh team regularly since Jamie Day joined as national team head coach two years ago.
“Wearing armband is always special. It gives me buzz everytime during the national anthem. It’s always special to captain the national side.” Replied Jamal to another query of a fan on comment box.
