No other foreign footballers stuck in Dhaka has the same opportunity as Police FC forward Sidney Rivera is scheduled to leave country along with more than 300 US citizens in the chartered flight that takes off from the capital tonight.
Rivera is scheduled to join his family in New Jersey through road transports from Washington after the chartered flight of Qatar Airways land him in the US capital.
“It was difficult to get outside the room due to coronavirus. There was nothing much to do. I couldn’t enjoy the days because of no game and training. Finally the opportunity arrives soon after I contacted with the embassy,” said Rivera to the media before the departure.
Bangladesh has so far confirmed five deaths due to Covid-19, as opposed to 2,493 in the US.
The 26-year-old forward added, “It’s now more important to save lives than playing. Nobody knows when the situation gets normal. I spent times reading books in last few days and talking to the family members but I was very eager to go back to my home.”
Born and brought up in New York, Rivera however represented Puerto Rico internationally since making his debut against Grenada during the CONCACAF Nations League Qualifiers last year.
Rivera made a fine debut at Police FC as he scored highest four goals in the season-opening Federation Cup but could manage only one goal from five matches in the Bangladesh Premier League which is suspended for indefinite period.
