Dhaka Tribune clinched the Marcel-BSJC Media Cup Football (six-a-side) 2017 Tournament after beating Channel i in the final at M Mansur Ali Handball Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday.
Following the end of regulation time that ended 1-1, Tribune prevailed 3-0 in the tie-breaker with Fazley Rabbi Moon, Shahriar Real and Baizid Haque Joarder netting their spot-kicks for the winning side.
On the other hand, Channel i missed three of their penalties to spark wild celebrations in the DT dugout.
This was Tribune's seventh title in four years. Previously, they won the Ascent Corporate Football Tournament, 3Crics Cricket Tournament, Sony Expo Football Tournament, the Media Cup Football Tournament, hosted by Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association and the Media Cup Cricket Tournament (twice), organised by Bangladesh Sports Journalists Community.

DHAKA TRIBUNEEarlier, DT went ahead 1-0 thanks to a fine team goal, bagged by player of the final Moon, in the first half. The winning side dominated the entire game with each half spanning 10 minutes. However, a lack of composure in front of the opposition goal ensured Tribune would go through nervy moments in the dying stages of the game.
And their worst nightmare was realised when player of the tournament Abdullah al Noufel grabbed the equaliser moments before the conclusion of the stipulated time.
Prior to the final whistle, DT did get a few chances but the opponent stood firm in the face of adversity, especially their goalkeeper.
The game then rolled into penalties and deservingly, it was Tribune who prevailed. It should be mentioned that DT finished unbeaten and conceded only once in the competition, scoring 11 goals in five matches.
Channel i's Abdullah al Noufel was named man of the tournament
DHAKA TRIBUNEThe champion side received Tk30,000 while the runners-up got Tk20,000. SA TV's Shofi ended as the tournament's highest scorer with five strikes.
FM Iqbal bin Anwar Don, Walton operative director, head of sports and welfare, and former star Bangladesh footballer Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Chunnu were present among others as special guests.
A total of 24 media houses – RisingBD, Bangladesh Protidin, Kaler Kantha, New Nation, Daily Star, Independent, Naya Diganta, Dhaka Tribune, Inqilab, Manab Kantha, Bonik Barta, Manabzamin, GTV, Jamuna TV, Channel i, Maasranga TV, ATN Bangla, RTV, SA TV, Baishakhi TV, BTV, BDNews24, Jago News and News Bangladesh – took part in the tournament.
The tournament was organised by BSJC and sponsored by leading local company Walton.
