Khulna clinch Bangamata U-17 Gold Cup

Rowshon gave Dhaka the lead before Khulna equalized through Anika Khatun

Khulna emerged as the champion in the Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib National U-17 Gold Cup Football Tournament after edging Dhaka 4-3 in the tiebreaker in the final at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Saturday.

Rowshon gave Dhaka the lead before Khulna equalized through Anika Khatun.

Khulna then took the lead when Unnoti Khatun found the back of the net and the score was 2-1 right till the end of the game when Dhaka grabbed a last-gasp equalizer, through Sadia.

The match was decided when Dhaka’s Rowshon Jahan ran in to take her spot-kick in the tiebreaker.

But her penalty was saved by the Khulna goalkeeper, sparking wild celebration in the dugout of the champion side.

In contrast, the Dhaka girls broke down into tears.

The champion side got Tk2 lakhs as prize money.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present during the occasion as the chief guest and handed over the prizes.
