Bangladesh Olympic football team left here for Nepal’s capital Kathmandu Wednesday ahead of the South Asian Games, which is scheduled to be held from December 1-10.

Head coach Jamie Day will be joining the side in Nepal from the UK Thursday.

The men in red and green will have a tough test on the opening day as they face host and favorite Nepal in the inaugural game of the football event Sunday before facing Bhutan two days later.

“I believe with them hosting and conditions in their favor, they are the competition favorite,” Day commented on Nepal.

“It’s (first match) also important because we play a day after and Nepal and Bhutan go into the last game knowing what result they need.”

The top two finishers from each group will play the semi-finals and if Bangladesh finish as Group A champion they may avoid India in the last-four.

The English coach said, “We will aim for a medal so we will still try for that but it’s tough. But if we finish in the top three, I’ll be pleased.”
