Following their impressive performances in the recent past, the Bangladesh football team rose three places in the Fifa ranking – rising up to 184th spot from 187th.
The young side led by English head coach Jamie Day looked promising as they beat Bhutan twice in international friendlies at home before clocking in an impressive performance against Qatar in the second round of the World Cup and Asian Cup joint qualifiers.
Despite losing 2-0 to the much-higher ranked World Cup 2022 host, Bangladesh garnered plaudits from all corners.
The following match against a rejuvenated India side at a packed Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata was a thriller as Bangladesh conceded a goal with two minutes of regulation time remaining to share points with the home side.

The match ended 1-1 but Day’s charges were more than able to make a statement.
India were still the top south Asian team in the ranking, despite finding themselves falling two places at 106th.
The ranking released yesterday saw the top four unchanged from the previous standings.
Belgium top the list followed by defending world champion France, Brazil and England.
Uruguay rose to fifth place as Portugal fell one spot to find themselves on sixth.
Croatia, Spain, Argentina and Colombia make up the rest of the top 10, respectively.
