Host Bangladesh kicked off their Uefa Assist U-16 Development Tournament 2019 with a comfortable 2-0 win over Cambodia in the opening day at Bangabandhu National Stadium Wednesday while only European outfit Faroe Islands thrashed Maldives 10-3 in the inaugural game.

Midfielder Moinul Islam Moin netted a brace in the second half with two clinical finishes to help the home side earn three points in the four-nation Uefa-funded tournament where the champion will be decided after the end of the round-robin league.

Following the goalless opening half, Moin opened the scoring four minutes into the second half with a neat placing shot after defender Apurbo Mali set him up with a long pass.

Moin exhibited fine work for the second goal.

Moin initiated the attack from the midfield before captain Jony Sikder carried the ball up front and delivered a pass to Moin for an easier finish at the goalmouth.

In the day’s first match, Faroe Islands midfielder Heini Fossdalsa Sorensen slammed a second half hat-trick while Mourits Mohr and Toki H Logv netted a brace each.

Aki Debesh, Ejvind Restorff and Johann Jokladal added one each while Khanaan Adam netted twice.

Saain Saleem scored the other for the losing side.

Bangladesh will play Faroe Islands and Maldives Friday and Sunday respectively at the same venue.
