Brothers push Mohammedan towards relegation zone

Brothers Union beat Arambagh Krira Shangha by a solitary goal at Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh to record their second win this season, and ended up at 11th position with eight points from 12 games in the first phase of the 13-team home-and-away based league

Brothers Union clinched a crucial win to pull them out of the relegation zone as the first phase of the Bangladesh Premier League 2018-19 came to an end Saturday.

Brothers beat Arambagh Krira Shangha by a solitary goal at Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh to record their second win this season, and ended up at 11th position with eight points from 12 games in the first phase of the 13-team home-and-away based league.

The win may bring some sigh of relief for the popular club, which used to make regular title challenges, but that pushed fallen giant Mohammadan Sporting Club Limited, one of the most popular sides in the arena, into the peril of the relegation zone.

Mohammedan just have six points, two better than the bottom side Team BJMC after the teams completed the first phase.

The defining moment in Mymensingh came in the 77th minute when Brazilian Everton Santos put the ball home for Brothers after receiving a pass from Panama’s Jack Daniels.

With the loss, Arambagh are fifth with 19 points.
