Haripur Government Primary School from Sylhet and Panchrukhi Government Primary School from Mymensingh emerged as the winners of the Bangabandhu and Bangamata Gold Cup Primary School Football Tournament respectively, after winning over their respective opponents in the grand finals held at Bangabandhu National Stadium Thursday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina graced the final event and handed over the prizes to the winners.
In the first final of the day, Haripur Government Primary School beat Dakkhin Kanialkhata Government Primary School from Nilphamari by a solitary goal, scored in the fifth minute of the match by Salman Ahmed.
A jubilant Salman said, “I never thought I would be able to play a tournament of such magnitude. It feels good to have played in it and even better knowing that I could help my team win it. I hope I can play for the Bangladesh national team someday, if provided with necessary support from the authorities.”

In the other final match of the day, the girls from Panchrukhi Government Primary School also managed to beat a resilient bunch of girls from Tepurgari BK Government Primary School, Lalmonirhat by a goal, much like the boys' final.
After a barren first half, Panchrukhi's Promi Akhter Tasmi scored from a brilliant free-kick to break the deadlock and help her side win the encounter.
She said, “It feels great to receive the trophy from the hands of the honourable Prime Minister. We were confident about playing well and it feels good to have achieved this feat.”
The champions in each of the categories received Tk3 lakhs while the runners-up and third place winners earned themselves Tk2 lakhs and Tk1 lakh, respectively.
The highest scorer and best player from both the categories were honoured with individual prizes.
