Liverpool legend Fowler hands over Standard Chartered Trophy 2019 to Youth Group

Alongside participating in the Standard Chartered Trophy 2019 Bangladesh, during his three-day visit to Dhaka, Robbie Fowler will lead exclusive youth football camps for school children, the Bank’s clients, and a team of Goal Girls, who are participants of the Bank’s Goal sustainability initiative

Youth Group won the Standard Chartered Trophy 2019 after completing a 1-0 win over Robi Axiata Limited in the final at Mansoor Ali National Handball Stadium Friday where Robbie Fowler, legendary Liverpool Football Club and England striker, visiting Bangladesh for the first time, handed over the trophy to the winner. 

The winning team will head to Anfield to represent Team Bangladesh in the global round of the Standard Chartered Trophy. 

This year, local tournaments are being held in seven other countries - Hong Kong, Korea, India, Ghana, Kenya, Pakistan and the UK. 

In addition to an opportunity to play football on an English Premier League pitch, the winning team will also have the opportunity to get up close and personal with Liverpool legends, and watch the Reds’ last home game of 2018-19, against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.

He will also host a private “Meet and Greet session” for the Bank’s selected clients, sharing some of the most memorable moments from his playing career.

Speaking on the occasion, Naser Ezaz Bijoy, CEO, Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said, “We are delighted to host Fowler in Bangladesh. I was also delighted to see our players showcase their football skills in front of a giant of the footballing world, with high-quality matches lighting up Standard Chartered Trophy 2019.”

The 12 participating teams in the Bangladesh leg of Standard Chartered Trophy 2019 Bangladesh were Bangla Trac, LankaBangla, Unilever, IDLC, Robi Axiata, BATB, Youth Group, United Group, Ispahani Group, Nestlé, Laugfs Gas and Unique Group.
