Bashundhara Kings defeated Rahmatgonj 1-0 in their Bangladesh Premier League football match at their home ground in Nilphamari on Thursday to remain top of the table with 15 points.
Abahani also have 15 points but are placed second as a result of goal difference.
The first half of the match remained goalless even though Bashundhara had chances to take the lead, but failed to finish.
In the second half, the wave of attacks from the home team continued and in the 50th minute Marcus Vinicious was fouled in the d-box by Rahmatgonj defender Monday Osaji as the referee blew his whistle to give Bashundhara a penalty.
It was up to Baktyiar Deshobikov to convert the penalty and give his side the lead as Bashundhara held on to the one goal advantage and grab all three points.

However, the Kings’ manager Jobayer Nipu was hoping for more goals while also expressing his displeasure about the refereeing: “We could have won by more goals but Rahmatgonj played very well defensively. Also, the referee didn’t give us two clear penalties.”
On the other hand, Rahmatgonj coach Syed Golam Jilani also expressed his qualms about the officiating: “The penalty decision that went against us was incorrect. How will we be able to get points with such officiating? But yes, we did get chances to score but we failed to grab the opportunity.”
In the other game, Nofel Sporting Club and BJMC played out a goalless draw at the Shahid Bulu Stadium in Noakhali. After six games, Nofel and BJMC both have two points with BJMC having played one more match.
