Holder Abahani Limited will face off against newcomer Nofel Sporting Club as the BPL Football gets underway Friday at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

The match begins at 3:30pm, while Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited will lock horns with rising giant Bashundhara Kings in the evening game at 6:30pm at the same venue.

The top-flight league will be held in six venues across the country – BNS, Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium, Mymensingh, Sheikh Moni Stadium, Gopalganj, Sheikh Kamal Stadium, Nilphamari, Shaheed Bhulu Stadium, Noakhali and Sylhet District Stadium.

The professional league committee wants to conclude the 13-tier league by July this year so there will be four matchdays in a week this season, compared to the three last season.

The BPL will take a breather at different points of the season due to the national team’s assignments, the AFC U-23 Championship and Abahani’s participation in the AFC Cup.

Meanwhile, the upcoming Bangladesh Championship League 2018-19 season will begin on February 5 at Shaheed Sipahi Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur.

The bottom two teams of the BPL will get relegated to the 12-team Championship League, while the champion of the second tier will be promoted to the top-flight.
