Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited set up a semi-final clash with Abahani Limited after young Gambian forward Sainey Bojang’s brace helped them beat Saif Sporting Club 2-1 in the second quarter-final of the Walton Federation Cup at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Friday.

It was the first professional goal for Bojang, who arrived at the Dhanmondi outfit last season, but couldn’t join the squad due to being aged below 18.

The juvenile winger developed a fine understanding with compatriot Solomon King, which was evident in the crucial last-eight tie where both of Bojan’s goals in the either side of each half were assisted by Solomon.

Irish coach Johnathan Mckinstry made his debut in Bangladesh a day after his arrival, but had to see his players being more engaged in resisting a series of attacks from Sheikh Jamal’s foreign forward trio.

Argentine striker Emanuel Perez squandered a couple of chances in the 13th and 20th minute, but wingers Bojang and Solomon continued to threaten the opponent’s defence.

Bojang gave Sheikh Jamal the lead in the 29th minute.

With a quick move, Bojang beat the offside trap to collect a brilliant lob from Solomon before drifting inside the box and calmly chipping the ball left to the onrushing goalkeeper Zia from the top of the box.

Bojang missed a great chance in the 35th minute when he failed to beat Zia in a one-on-one situation after snatching a misplaced pass outside the box.

Perez missed his best chance at the hour mark.

Bojang penetrated through the left side before feeding Perez with a precise pass at the six-yard box, but Bablu made a late interception to block the effort.

Colombian midfielder Deiner Cordoba Escarpeta netted a spectacular equaliser in the 71st minute.

Receiving a pass from Jabed, Deiner fired a right-footer from 25 yards that entered home into the middle right.

The delight didn’t last long however, as Bojang took the lead again five minutes later heading into an empty net after Solomon’s cross  from the right flank met him at the top of the six-yard box.

Sheikh Jamal will face holder Abahani in the first semi-final at the same venue.
