Mohammedan crash out of Fed Cup

Had it not been for the brilliant performance of Mohammedan goalkeeper Sarwar Jahan and Sheikh Jamal’s misfiring attempts, the scoreline could have been in favour of Sheikh Jamal

Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited crashed out of the Federation Cup despite holding Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited to a 1-1 draw at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Tuesday.

Both Sheikh Jamal and Bashundhara Kings concluded the Group D fixtures with five points each, but goal-difference put the latter ahead in the points table.

The Black and Whites have earned four points.

Had it not been for the brilliant performance of Mohammedan goalkeeper Sarwar Jahan and Sheikh Jamal’s misfiring attempts, the scoreline could have been in favour of the Dhanmondi outfit.

Gambian forward Solomon King had a vibrant presence throughout the game.

At the half-hour mark, Sarwar rushed forward to make a brilliant block and deny Solomon’s dangerous effort from the top of the box.

Solomon’s former teammate and compatriot, Landing Darboe gave Mohammedan the breakthrough in the 33rd minute from a brilliant free kick.

The Gambian forward unleashed his curved shot from 30 yards that bounced into the net to the left side of the diving Sheikh Jamal keeper Mohammad Nayeem.

In the 38th minute, Sheikh Jamal forward Emanuel Araya Perez saw a couple of his efforts blocked by Sarwar and defender Mintu Sheikh respectively at the near post.

The Argentine however, rectified his mistakes by equalising three minutes into the second half.

A long cross of Solomon was slightly deflected off Mohammedan defender Mohammad Javed before Perez calmly placed home from the left side of the box.

Perez missed another big chance in the 85th minute when his shot went wide off the far post after a cutback from Solomon.

RESULT

Sk Jamal 1 (Perez 48) 1 Mohammedan (Landing 33)
