Bangladesh Premier League side Bashundhara Kings created quite a stir when they signed Costa Rica’s Daniel Colindres, who featured in the Fifa World Cup 2018 in Russia.

And he lived upto the billing, scoring once and providing three assists in their Federation Cup match against Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Monday.

The Kings thrashed the Black and Whites 5-2, thanks largely down to Colindres’ brilliant performance.

The Costa Rican footballer, who featured in two matches in Russia, expressed delight after shining bright on his debut for the Kings.

He said, “I am delighted at being able to score just after coming to Dhaka. Since this was my first game, I was a bit nervous. But I adapted soon, scored and gave assists.”

Colindres also praised his teammates after an impressive display in their season opener.

“Bashundhara Kings are a good side. Our ambition is big. We have footballers like [Towhidul Alam] Sabuj, [Masuk Mia] Jony and [Mahbubur Rahman] Sufil.”

Colindres was appreciated in many quarters for assisting the Kings’ fourth goal, scored by Brazilian forward Marcos Vinicius, rather than netting himself.

“Vinicius was a bit nervous, he missed a few chances. I wanted to increase his confidence so I provided an assist.”

The Kings’ Spanish head coach Oscar Bruzon also acknowledged Colindres’ effort.

“Daniel is a bit different than the others, some of his moves are exceptional,” said Bruzon after the game.
