Bangladesh football team head coach Jamie Day said his team are targeting the semi-final round of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup.

The tournament will commence on October 1 and the tactician expressed his desire at the grand trophy unveiling ceremony at a city hotel Saturday.

Bangladesh are pitted in group B with Philippines and Laos, while Palestine, Nepal and Tajikistan will feature in Group A of this six-nation tournament.

“We want to reach the semi-final of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup. There are a few teams in this tournament which are stronger than that of Saff tournament, but we are ready to confront them,” said the Englishman.

Day also hailed goalkeeper Shahidul Alam Sohel, who made a blunder in the Saff Championship that saw the host get eliminated from the group stage. Sohel is not in the squad due to personal reasons but Day hoped the shot-stopper would return soon.
