AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers: Big wins for Vietnam, Lebanon

Host Bangladesh, who made history by qualifiying for the final round for the first time in history, will began their campaign against Bahrain Monday

The Group F matches of the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship 2019 Qualifiers got underway in Dhaka with favourites Vietnam and Lebanon getting off to flying starts at Bir Sreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium Saturday.

Vietnam outplayed the United Arab Emirates 4-0 in the inaugural game with forward Phan Thi Ngoc netting a brace in the 15th and 25th minute. Do Thi Nhi extended the lead in the 79th minute before Bui Thi Thuong came off the bench to seal victory three minutes into injury time.

Lebanon had to wait for half an hour to get into the scoresheet in their colossal 8-0 win over Bahrain, thanks to striker Nathalie Alabed for the first hattrick of the Group F qualifying round. After midfielder Sophie Fayad broke the deadlock from a penalty in the 31st minute, Nathalie opened her scoring seven minutes later before completing her treble after the break, scoring in the 53rd and 76th minute.

Christy Maalouf, Syntia Salha and substitute forward Jana Korjieh scored one each in the 36th, 62nd , 73rd minute. Sophie added another four minutes into added time.
