India clinched the Saff U-15 Women’s Championship after beating Bangladesh 1-0 in the final at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan Saturday.
Sunita Munda scored the all-important goal in the 66th minute as India gained sweet revenge over Bangladesh after the latter beat the former in the final of the same tournament’s inaugural edition last year in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh were slight favourite going into the final and did dominate for large periods of the game. India had four shots on target against Bangladesh’s 11 while the winning side registered two shots off target, against the losing side’s six.
Bangladesh also got six corners against India’s two. But India held on to record a memorable win over their neighbour.
Bangladesh earlier began the age-level tournament with a thumping 14-0 win over sub-continent rival Pakistan before thrashing Nepal 4-0 in their last group stage game. The girls in red and green then defeated host Bhutan 5-0 in the semi-final but eventually fell short against a dogged Indian side.
