Manchester United are considering approaching Paul Mitchell of RB Leipzig to become their director of football, Sky Sports says.

The Red Devils are planning on installing a new position to take over control of transfers and see Mitchell, who is credited with bringing Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld to Tottenham, as an ideal candidate.

Dan Ashworth, currently at the Football Association, is another name on United's shortlist for the role.

Klavan set for £2m Cagliari switch

Liverpool have agreed to sell defender Ragnar Klavan to Cagliari in a £2 million ($2.5m) deal.

The Estonia international will travel to Italy on Friday to complete a medical and finalise personal terms as he ends his two-year stay at Anfield.

Goal revealed earlier this week that the Reds would consider offers for the 32-year-old, and Cagliari have seen off interest from Germany to land the experienced centre-back.

Roma's €40m Bailey bid blocked by Bayer

Roma have had a €40 million (£36m/$45m) for Leon Bailey rejected by Bayer Leverkusen, according to Mediaset Premium.

AC Milan will sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic on loan from Lazio in a €40 million (£36m/$45m) deal that includes an option to buy the midfielder, Il Sole 24 reports.

The Rossoneri are expected to beat the likes of Manchester United to the signing of the Serbian midfielder, who is booked in for a medical at San Siro on Friday.

Milan are also said to be chasing Adrien Rabiot from Paris Saint-Germain, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport but will have to compete with Barcelona.

The U.S. international spent time with several European sides prior to his move to Toronto, including Sunderland and AZ.
