Day nine meant the Ascent Corporate Soccer Cup 2018 was just a day away from the grand finale and competition and quality on show was of the highest standard.
Friday may have begun on a relaxed note for most citizens but FCB Bitopi and Race Online were engaged in footy battle from early morning. After being tied at one goal apiece, it took the heroics of the Race Online goalkeeper to earn his team a 1 (2) – 1 (1) victory.
The second game was between IDLC Finance and Elite Paints where the former cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win.
Fakhruddin Textile took on Unilever in the third match of the morning and though it was evenly matched for majority of the tie, Unilever took the game away with two late goals to win 3-1.
The goals really began to flow with the Intertek v TVS Auto match where Arafat put in a seven-star performance, scoring all seven goals for Intertek in a 7-1 victory.
The goals continued in the Multimode vs Metronet game with the former winning by a 6-0 margin. Interestingly, there were six different scorers, which is always a good sign!
Galaxy Group faced Polar BD and won convincingly by a 5-2 margin while Bproperty.com edged out Bay Development in a much closer fixture.
Tournament regular Chevron put up a clinical performance to beat a spirited Vino Global 4-1.
“Battle of the Veterans” was IIDFC taking on Beximco Textiles in a high-quality game where both teams fought tooth and nail. In the end the experience and lethal finishing of Biplob (four goals) led IIDFC to a 6-2 win.
Neo Zipper zipped through the otherwise difficult to break down Brac Bank, who have been a hard team to beat this tournament. And the final scoreline was 4-0 in favour of Neo Zipper.
Bongo ran through Asutex 7-2 to reach the plate semi-final, with Sharan starring with six goals.
Playing their second matches of the day, Unilever proved too strong for Race Online and trounced them 4-1 to take their place in the Bowl semi-final.
Bproperty.com also made the semi-final of the Bowl with a clinical 4-1 win over Multimode.
