Marico was the recipient of an all out mauling by Dhaka Tribune on the first match of the day on the seventh day of the 13th Ascent Soccer Cup on Wednesday.Dhaka Tribune’s onslaught started early on in the match as Irfan and gang held the entire Marico team hostage in their own half. By the second half the dam broke and the goals ensued with Irfan scoring a whopping four goals. The final score was 9-1.

Lal Teer crashed out of this year’s tournament after a 4-0 drubbing by Asutex. All 4 outfield players of Asutex featured on the scoreboard as they move on to Plate quarter finals.

The most gripping match of the day belonged to First Finance vs Runner. This was end-to-end stuff as the score-line kept oscillating for-and-against both teams. 55 year-old Jahangir of First Finance pulled a goal back to bring his team 3-3 in the 19th minute of the match only to see his defenders bungle up in the dying seconds which put Runner firmly in the driver’s seat. The final score was 3-4 with Saiful of Runner scoring a scintillating hattrick.

The tie between Energy Pac and Ascent Group was a physical encounter with neither team giving each other an inch or a quarter. With the margins being so fine and stakes so high, it took a quick counter attack by Marmato give the home team a place in the quarter finals.

In the other games on the sixth day, NEO Zipper cruised past Jaago in a 4-0 encounter. Jaago had a splendid tournament and with a much improved side since the one we saw last year and we look forward to their participation in 2019. NEO on the other hand, are looking like a strong contender for the quarter finals, especially due to their striker Adnan who scored a glorious hat-trick.

Bando Design posted a massive score of 19 goals against a shell-shocked Aarong Dairy. Bando’s maverick captain Imran is heading the goal tally with nine goals from a single match, making him the forerunner for the Golden Boot.

Meena Sweets also advanced to the quarterfinals of the cup by defeating Green Delta in a hard fought battle. The final score 7 -2 didn’t reflect the efforts put on by Green Delta but it is fortune that favors the brave.

Rancon was on the receiving end of a 6-1 hiding by Sterling. Sami and Shoeb huffed and puffed throughout the match trying to get a foothold but Sterling was running circles around the electronic giants. Their striker Rion scored a marvelous hat-trick ensuring their position in the Cup quarterfinals.
