Update : 19 Feb 2017, 09:15 PM
Chittagong Abahani's Augustine Walson put the home side ahead in the 24th minute with a lovely finish, following a through pass from midfielder Mamunul Islam. Kingsley doubled the lead in the 40th minute before Walson netted his second in the 83rd minute. Earlier in the day's other match at the same venue, Mohammedan Sporting Club of Bangladesh began their campaign with a disappointing 2-0 loss against Nepal outfit Manang Marshyangdi Club in the evening. The Black and Whites dominated the opening half, creating a number of opportunities but their misfiring forwards failed to convert any of their chances. Striker Aminur Rahman Sajib hit the woodwork in the 43rd minute with a brilliant strike from outside the penalty area. Dawda Sisse and Zappa Mustapha, meanwhile, squandered two chances in the 50th minute. Manang came back strongly after resumption and Zambian forward Afeez Olawale Oladipo put the visiting side ahead in the 53rd minute. Receiving a superb lob from Rohit Chand, Afeez run through opponent terrain before chipping the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper Mamun Khan to find the back of the net. Bishal Rai doubled the lead to sealed victory three minutes before the end of stipulated time. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Premier League champion Dhaka Abahani Limited will face a tough test on Monday in order to survive in the competition. The Sky Blues, who lost to Maldives outfit TC Sports in their first match last Saturday, take on South Korean club Pocheon Citizen FC at the same venue at 4pm. Pocheon beat Kyrgyzstan top-flight club FC Alga in the inaugural match. Alga and TC Sports face each other on Monday in the day's second match.
