The BFF has been considering the JFA U-14 National Women's Football Championship as a talent hunt event since the beginning of its journey three years ago. The previous two editions were held in November but this time around, the upcoming edition is set to kick off at six different venues Tuesday.
Shaheed Barkat Ullah Stadium in Gazipur will be the new addition to the existing venues while Rajshahi's Muktijoddha Smriti District Stadium, Gopalganj's Sheikh Moni Stadium, Laxmipur District Stadium, Khulna's Metropolitan Police Line Field and Nilfamari District Stadium will host 35 district women's teams.
Women's wing committee chairman Mahfuza Akter Kiron informed at a press conference at BFF House Sunday that five districts have withdrawn their name from the tournament due to financial problem of the respective DFA. BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag informed that the federation usually provides Tk15,000 whereas the figure should be double to get more districts with financial lackings involved in the event.
When queried, Kiron informed that the fund they get from the Japan Football Association has not increased and expressed gratitude to Walton Group for continuing their support towards women's football. Walton is the co-sponsor of the event and its operative director FM Iqbal bin Anwar Dawn was also present at the presser. He hoped that the tournament would find more future talents for the country.
Due to renovation work, the matches in Gazipur will begin a day later Wednesday with former champion Mymensingh placed among six districts. Last year's runners-up Thakurgaon will take part at Nilfamari venue that would host highest seven districts. The regional matches will be held in only three days except Nilfamari (four days). The champion from each district and the two best runners-up sides will qualify for the final round, scheduled to begin Monday.
