National School Football begins May

Update : 13 Apr 2018, 01:39 AM
The National School Football Championship, with the participation of district school football champions from the Bangabandhu Gold Cup Primary School Football Tournament, will be held after a gap of around four years. The championship will kick off in the first week of May this year. Around 60 district football champions, with the exception of Kishoreganj, are likely to take part in the event but, so far, 56 schools have confirmed their participation, informed Bangladesh Football Federation general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag during a press conference at BFF House in Dhaka Thursday. If the number of entries remain same as of now, the tournament will be held in seven venues – Dhaka, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Rangpur, Barisal, Satkhira, Feni or Chittagong. The final round will be held in the capital city.BFF's senior vice-president Abdus Salam Murshedy hopes to conclude the tournament before the 2018 Russia World Cup. School football committee chairman Bijon Barua said, "Despite the long gap and many obstacles, it's good that we are going to start the tournament again after three-four years. The champion school of every district will play in the event, kicking off in the first week of May. The district football league might also be held at the same time. We hope to find many talents from there for the future." The tournament is included in BFF's calendar, and part of the tournament's expenses will be covered by world football’s governing body. The contract signing between the tournament’s sponsor Pran Milk and the BFF was also held at the end of the presser.
