Shahida Khatun, along with her team Dhaka girls' youth football side continued their outstanding run in the Bangladesh Youth Games by securing a final spot Monday, while swimmer Ariful Islam of Dhaka also carried on his superiority in the pool by bagging five gold medals from as many events on the concluding day of swimming discipline.
The events of archery were also completed Monday with Rajshahi dominating the leaders' board. The track and field events of athletics also started Monday with Jahir and Sheuly Khatun winning gold in boys' and girls' 400m sprint respectively.
FootballDhaka reached double digit in terms of goals in two consecutive matches as they handed Khulna a crushing 16-0 defeat in the first semi-final of the women's category, setting up a gold-deciding match with Mymensingh, who earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over Chittagong in the second semi-final on the same day.
Shahida once again became the star of the day by netting an incredible double hat-trick while Sadia Akter also scored a treble to gun down the Khulna defence. Chittagong, who scored 13 goals against Sylhet in their previous match, conceded a shocking defeat at the hand of a spirited Mymensingh side. Marufa, Rony and Salma scored one apiece for Mymensingh while Thuima Sing and Chusai netted for Chittagong. The final between Dhaka and Mymensingh will be held Wednesday.
AthleticsMajority of the participants in athletics discipline are familiar with the track of Bangabandhu National Stadium after taking part in the junior national athletics championship before and many among them are current BKSP students. The BKSP athlete duo Zahir Raihan from Sherpur and Sheuly from Pabna, representing Mymensingh and Rajshahi respectively, grabbed the gold in the 400m events in the afternoon.
Zahir made the headlines last year after reaching the semi-final of the World Youth Championship last year in Nairobi. He recorded another notable timing Monday as he clocked 49.70s to touch the finishing line. Sheuly took 1:01.10s to finish her run.
Jannatul (Dhaka) and Sweaty (Khulna) won gold in the girls' high jump and long jump respectively while Tanmay Bauddha (Khulna) bagged gold in boys' shot-put event.

KarateRajshahi also dominated in the karate discipline which ended Monday. Rajshahi won a total of 12 medals including seven golds, two silvers and three bronzes while Chittagong were placed second winning four golds, four silver and seven bronzes.
JudoDhaka, riding on its female participants, won a total of four golds and a couple of silvers to assert their dominance in the judo discipline. All of Dhaka's golds were won by its girls judo players while Rangpur and Rajshahi put up better displays in the boys' events. Rajshahi finished second with a total of three golds and five silver. A total of 36 male and as many female players took part in 12 weight categories in judo.
Table TennisIn the table tennis discipline, Khulna managed gold in the both the boys and girls’ teams events. Khulna beat Rangpur in the boys' team final while they beat Rajshahi in the girls’ team final. Meanwhile, Mou and Tushi of Khulna won the girls' doubles title.
TaekwondoChittagong girls dominated in taekwondo by winning five golds out of a total of eight, thanks to gold-medalists Asmaul Husna, Syeda Sumaiya Akter, Sabiha Sultana and Israt Jahan. Rakibul Islam of Dhaka, Fahim Ahmed of Khulna and Mamunur Rashid of Rangpur won the other three medals.
ChessFide Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Barisal clinched gold in the U-17 boys’ chess event while Kazi Zarin Tasnim of Dhaka sealed first place in the girls’ U-17 category.
