BFF likely to face action if Fifa deadline not met

Update : 05 Dec 2017, 09:38 PM
The “unprofessional” approach of Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and the BFF towards a Fifa order of deducting three points from the Bangladesh Premier League side has turned the issue into an unpleasant situation. World football’s governing body warned that the implementation of the order must be done immediately or the federation may face disciplinary action. After Mohammedan failed to pay the due of $20,000 to their former Nigeria head coach Emeka Ezeugo, despite repeated deadlines since 2015, Fifa asked BFF to deduct three premier league points from the club on October 30 this year. On November 18, the football federation, on behalf of the club, requested Fifa to extend the time by one more month and also consider the deduction of points but Fifa rejected the appeal on November 30, urging the federation to execute the order immediately. When queried as to how long the word “immediately” means, BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag informed that the term has no definition by Fifa, terming the situation a “silly matter”. He however, admitted that it is mentioned in the Fifa letter that world football’s regulatory body might take disciplinary action against the federation if it fails to follow the order. He also added that they will discuss the matter in the upcoming executive committee meeting Thursday. The issue goes as far back as five years ago when former Nigeria international Emeka left the role of Mohammedan head coach following payment dispute. Emeka, who also played for Mohammedan in the late 1980s, took his claim to Fifa and won the case after which Fifa ordered the club to pay $20,000 to the coach. But Mohammedan failed to meet the deadline more than once since 2015.
