High-flying Nepal will head into today’s grand finale of the 4th Bangabandhu Gold Cup as hot favourites against a semi-professional Bahrain Under-23 football side. The title-decider kicks off at 5:30pm and BTV and Channel 9 will telecast it live from the Bangabandhu National stadium.
Nepal will be confident about their prospects after thrashing a strong Maldives side 4-1 in the semi-finals. And although Bahrain U-23 edged hosts Bangladesh in the last four, it was the latter who dominated large parts of their clash.
The Gorkhalis, who have only conceded one goal in the tournament so far, will be spearheaded by attacking midfielder Nawayug Shreshtha, who is the leading goalscorer with three strikes.
Bahrain U-23, on the other hand, might have shipped just two goals but goalscoring seems to be a problem as they have only bagged four goals in as many matches.
