Update : 24 Nov 2015, 07:39 PM

The Bangladesh Football Federation yesterday confirmed late 2016-17 as the possible time frame for holding the inaugural franchise-based professional football league. Named Bangladesh Super League, the identical version of the Indian Super League, will be organised in collaboration with the Celebrity Management Group (CMG), Soccer League UK and Saif Powertec.

“It had been our long desire to do something new for football and (yesterday) we have reached to a decision. We will arrange Bangladesh Super League in the 2016-17 football season with the association of three companies. We will inform further details by next 30 days,” said BFF president Kazi Salahuddin following a meeting with the three parties.

“We needed time for the final announcement. So this is now finalised, we are happy. It feels really good. I hope we will make it a successful event.”

CMG executive director Bhaswar Goswami, UK Soccer League’s Mohammad Kabir and Tarafdar Ruhul Amin, owner of Saif Powertec, were present when the five-year deal was signed at the BFF chief’s residence in Gulshan yesterday.

Similar to the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20, the BSL will also be contested by six to seven district and divisional teams.

The Bangladesh Super League will be included in the BFF’s domestic calender and is likely to be held between November to January. As planned, the next football season will begin with this money-spilling tournament.
