Bangladesh football team suffered a number of injury blows as at least seven players are currently sick or injured and are major doubts for their next 2018 Fifa World Cup second round qualifier away to Kyrgyzstan on October 13.
Five players in the injury list are first-choice in the starting XI, including striker Jahid Hasan Ameli, winger Zahid Hossain, midfielder Sohel Rana, defender Yeasin Khan and goalkeeper Shahidul Alam Sohel. Sohel was unavailable against Australia in Perth and is yet to recover fully.
Thirty players had joined the national residential camp at BKSP on September 27 under the guidance of newly-appointed trainer Fabio Lopez but the recent injury blows have become a source of concern for the Italian head coach.
Below is the list of injured players, including the types of injury:
Jahid Hasan Ameli
The veteran striker did not join the residential camp at BKSP due to a tumour that was diagnosed in his stomach. He is not scheduled to return to the field before the match against Kyrgyzstan.
Sohel Rana
The young attacking midfielder left the camp two days ago owing to a hamstring injury in his right leg. Like Ameli, Sohel is currently recuperating at his home.
Zahid Hossain
The pacy right winger hurt his ankle joint. He has been asked to rest for a week. Zahid is also recovering at his home. He expressed disappointment with his injury, saying, “It is really frustrating to be injured before such a crucial match. I'm seriously doubtful for the game.”
Yeasin Khan
Dependable centre-back Nasir Uddin Chowdhury has already been ruled out due to injury. Yeasin was being touted as his replacement. However, the young Sheikh Jamal stopper-back is suffering from tonsillitis. He is currently under the supervision of an otorhinolaryngologist and might return before the Kyrgyzstan tie.
Shahidul Alam Sohel
The in-form goalkeeper is suffering from an injury to his ankle but stayed back at the camp. He is not yet fully recovered as he still experiences pain while jumping for a ball. Sohel is expected to recover in time for the Kyrgyzstan encounter.
Mohammad Rumman
After being named in the preliminary 40-man squad, Rumman impressed Fabio so much that he was included in the 29-member squad. But he was forced to leave the camp three days ago due to viral fever.
Atiqur Rahman Meshu
The seasoned defender has been suffering from fever for the last few days but it is nothing serious.
