The Bangladesh football’s team training camp preparing for the upcoming 11th edition of the Saff Championship was struck by an unfortunate incident of food-poisoning as four national footballers fell prey to stomach upset yesterday.
Strikers Aminur Rahman Sajib and Shakhawat Hossain Rony, left winger Faisal Mahmud and midfielder Shahedul Alam Shahed are the victims. The quartet were unable to partake in yesterday’s practice session and had to take rest instead.
Bangladesh team doctor Sajib Shams Bokshi however, is apparently in the dark as to what caused the players to break down to food-poisoning but assured that the situation is not serious.
“Shahed and Sajib also caught cold fever along with stomach upset but none of their condition is serious. I do not know why this happened to them,” said Bokshi yesterday.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Football Federation general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag said they are treating the issue seriously but refused to admit that the quality of food was not up to the mark. “It is not the first time the players are staying here (BFF House). They were there in the past but such problems never happened before. Still, we will inquire further to find out the cause,” said Shohag before adding, “Tk20,000 is being spent for food everyday. I do not know why the quality of the food is being questioned.”
Besides the quartet, veteran striker Enamul Haque is also suffering from an injury in his calf muscle. Sources however, confirmed that Enamul’s injury is also not serious.
