Bangladesh hold Malaysia in friendly

Update : 29 Aug 2015, 06:34 PM

A superb display by goalkeeper Shahidul Alam Sohel helped Bangladesh to a goalless draw against hosts Malaysia in a Fifa international friendly at Shah Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The friendly was a warm-up for the Bengal Tigers ahead of their upcoming 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Australia and Jordan.

The men in red and green will be content with the stalemate as they previously lost six times in eight matches against Malaysia. The clean sheet will also provide some much-needed inspiration for the clash against Asian champions Australia.

Bangladesh custodian Sohel produced a number of lovely saves in the opening half and continued to frustrate the home side’s attackers after resumption. The tourists however, will be disappointed with the performance of their attackers as they mustered only one shot on target in comparison to the hosts’ six. Mohammedan winger Jewel Rana went the closest for the visitors in the 27th minute when he failed to hold on to a Jamal Bhuiyan through pass.

The Bangladesh squad will fly straight to Australia today where they will face the Socceroos this Saturday at NIB Stadium in Perth before taking on Jordan this Saturday at Bangabandhu National Stadium.
