Charming midfielder Mamunul Islam is confident of attaining full fitness before the upcoming friendlies against Singapore and Afghanistan starting from May 30.
The Bangladesh and Sheikh Jamal DC captain resumed full training with his teammates and looked elated during the national team’s practice session at the Dhanmondi ground yesterday afternoon.
Mamunul missed Sheikh Jamal’s last three games in the first phase of Bangladesh Premier League and is eager to regain full form.
“It would be better for me if I can play the two friendly matches against Singapore and Afghanistan. My physical fitness will get better and it will also benefit me in the first two World Cup qualifying matches,” said the 28-year-old after training yesterday.
“I’m training fully with the team. But I have to take part in an extra training as I just passed the recovery time to gain the top level fitness,” he added.
Bangladesh will began their Fifa World Cup qualifiers campaign with the match against Kyrgyzstan on June 11 in Dhaka before hosting Tajikistan five days later. As part of preparation the national squad will feature in two warm-up matches against Singapore on May 30 and Afghanistan on June2.
The skipper said they have 18 days to prepare for all the four matches in 18 days. “We are getting ready for all four matches at the same time. (Positive result in) The first two friendly matches will improve our Fifa ranking while the next two will be for Asia Cup (qualification).”
