Tigers Captain Mashrafe has praised supporters of Bangladesh cricket who never stopped inspiring the players.

Mashrafe said: “Our supporters are the reason we play cricket for. They have backed us in all circumstances and I believe this will continue.”

The Captain expressed his loyalty to the supporters in a press conference at Shahjalal International Airport just after the arrival of Bangladesh cricket team on Sunday.

“I think we have achieved a lot in the World Cup and I hope we continue in the same manner in the future. We have big teams coming to play us at home this year and I hope our passionate supporters will be behind us,” he said.

“I personally think the team playing in the quarter-finals is the best achievement in the history of Bangladesh cricket. I do not know if I will be playing in the next World Cup but I would like to request everyone - let it be the players, the officials or even the supporters – to be more responsible,” the Narail Express added.

Bangladesh strung together a dream run during their 56-day campaign Down Under. The Tigers went into the flagship event on the back of a disappointing 2014 but to everyone's amazement, Bangladesh stormed into the quarter-finals following a historic win over England.

When queried to give the reasons behind their success, Mashrafe said, “The conditional camp (in Brisbane) really helped us. The main challenge for us was to cope with the conditions in Australia and New Zealand and that camp helped us big time to be honest. The players gained confidence from it. The players were given enough freedom and it paid off. We had some great performances on the field.”
