Rangpur division’s celebration of winning their maiden National Cricket League title was marred by Khulna Divisional Sports Association (KDSA) who alleged Dhaka Metro of intentionally losing to Rangpur in the ultimate game that ended on Thursday. It was learnt, KDSA on Thursday last “verbally” complained to the Bangladesh Cricket Board tournament committee and will place a written complain with evidence today.
KDSA alleged Dhaka Metro of throwing the game away which enabled Rangpur to win with bonus points and as a result finish above Khulna in the points table. Khulna team manager Mostafizur Rahman informed that the written complain and evidence – a voice recording – will be couriered to the BCB tournament committee and disciplinary committee today.
“We were informed of such accusations over phone, but we have not yet received an official complain,” informed tournament committee chairman Akram Khan to the media.
Akram also informed that the board will also look into the report on the game by the match referee Shawkatur Rahman. The final round game between Rangpur and Metro saw the former set a target of 360 as Metro were all out in the last over of the day.
Before the last round, Khulna, Dhaka division and Rangpur shared the top spot with 96 points each. Khulna defeated Chittagong by the end of day 3 by an innings and 24 runs and earned 24 points to have a total 120 points. Rangpur earned 25 points defeating Dhaka Metro and took their tally to 121 to lift the title.
