Turner returns with long term development plan

Update : 25 Jan 2015, 06:16 PM

Australian Ross Turner re-established his relation with Bangladesh cricket as the former BCB Academy coach joined as a development consultant yesterday. The former International Cricket Council (ICC) global development manager will be responsible for formulating the BCB’s long-term strategic plans from 2015 onwards.

With a vision to raise the standard of the game in the country, Turner will submit a four-year plan where he will highlight the necessity of developing the grass-root level with viable facilities.

“I will give a four-year plan for the whole organisation (BCB). We’ve done the preliminary work. Last three days I’ve explained my strategic plan before the members of the board. Now I’m taking the ideas and concept from the board members,” said Turner at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium yesterday.

“The second step will be to focus on how the quality of cricket and organisation in Bangladesh can be improved. At the same time I have also made recommendations on how Bangladesh cricket can move forward with good governance,” Turner informed after his meeting with the board members.

BCB director Naimur Rahman, who was appointed as chairman of the Cricket Operations earlier this month, Nazmul Abedin, manager of BCB game development, Sabbir Rahman, manager of BCB Cricket Operations along with other managers of various departments were also present in the meeting with Turner.

It is not an unknown fact that despite several attempts, BCB failed to decentralise the game and Turner wants to complete the action.

“We’ve proposed to develop the grassroots and regional cricket along with decentralising the structure of Bangladesh cricket so that it could ensure quality cricket at the international level,” he continued.

“There are opportunities to see the development works in Australia and New Zealand as the board directors will go there during the World Cup,” he said adding, “Then we’ll be able to give them a clear cut message in February or after the World Cup.” Turner believes Bangladesh’s ranking will also improve gradually if the key challenges are taken care of.

Nazmul Abedin Fahim supported Turner and said, “The board is seeking to develop a strategic plan. This time the plan will be for four years as the board is not willing to go for the long term programme at the moment.”

“On the basis of the today’s discussion, Ross will formulate a preliminary plan, from where we are hopeful to get and set a final plan.”

“Along with that, we will also find ways of our earnings and spend it wisely for development. It will also ensure how we can get more out of using our limited resources,” Nazmul said.
