Update : 08 Nov 2016, 11:30 PM
Tamim Iqbal's Chittagong Vikings defeated defending champions Comilla Victorians by 29 runs in the first match of the fourth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Chasing 162, the Victorians lost wickets at regular intervals and eventually finished their innings on 132/8. Nazmul Hossain Shanto played a fighting 44-ball 54-run innings for the Victorians. He even hit four consecutive boundaries in the last over bowled by Taskin Ahmed but it was not enough for the holders. English pacer Tymal Mills was the surprise package for the Vikings as the left-armer bowled beautifully with quick pace and an equally good slower delivery. He picked up the wicket of Mashrafe bin Mortaza conceding 28 runs. But it was Mohammad Nabi with his off-spin that did the trick for the Vikings. The Afghan took four wickets conceding just 24 runs in four overs. Marlon Samuels was the second-highest scorer for the Victorians with 23 runs. Earlier, the Victorians skipper Mashrafe won the toss and elected to field first. The Vikings made a brisk start as their captain Tamim started aggressively. Tamim was dropped when he was on 23 by Comilla’s Nahidul Islam off the bowling of Imad Wasim. Tamim duly took advantage and played some beautiful shots all around the ground. His 54 off 38 balls featured six boundaries and two over-boundaries. Tamim’s innings came to an end with a run out due to miscommunication with his batting partner Anamul Haque Bijoy. The Vikings though maintained their good start and kept the scoreboard moving along. Pakistani recruit Shoaib Malik played a crucial 42-run knock as the port city outfit posted 161 for the loss of three wickets.BRIEF SCOREChittagong Vikings 161/3 (Tamim 54, Malik 42*, Jahurul 29*) beat Comilla Victorians 132/8 (Shanto 54*, Samuels 23, Nabi 4/24) by 29 runsChittagong VikingsTamim Iqbal (C), Dwayne Smith, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Nabi, Anamul Haque (WK), Taskin Ahmed, Abdur Razzak, Jahurul Islam, Tymal Mills, Zakir Hasan and Nazmul Hossain MilonComilla VictoriansImrul Kayes, Liton Kumar Das (WK), Ashar Zaidi, Imad Wasim, Mashrafe bin Mortaza (C), Sohail Tanvir, Marlon Samuels, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Nahidul Islam, Mohammad Sharif and Al Amin
