Update : 08 Jan 2015, 09:37 AM

Pacer Rubel Hossain, who is now in jail, might be replaced if he fails to join the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup squad in time.

Quoting Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, ESPNcricinfo reported on Thursday.

"We are discussing the matter, so it is quite early to say what we are planning to do," Chowdhury said.

"But he had been handling the matter personally so far. If he fails to join the squad in time, we have a contingency plan in place."

ICC Cricket World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand from February 14 to March 29.

Chowdhury informed that Bangladesh cricket team is set to fly for Brisbane on January 24.

Rubel, one of the Bangladesh's 15-member World Cup squad, was sent to jail by a Dhaka court in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Anwar Sadat passed the order after he surrendered before the court and pleaded for bail on Thursday morning.

On December 15, Rubel was granted four weeks of anticipatory bail in the case.

Actress Happy, on December 13, filed the case against Rubel with Mirpur police under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

According to Section 9(1) of The Prevention of Oppression Against Women and Children Act 2000, whoever has sexual intercourse without lawful marriage with a woman by fraud, shall be said to commit rape.

It states anyone commits the offence shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for life and with fine.

On December 31, a Dhaka court gave the permission to conduct the DNA test of Rubel Hossain in the case.

Previously, police collected some samples from Rubel’s residence and sent those to the laboratory of Criminal Investigation Department for the tests.

According to the FIR, Rubel told Happy that they would marry and had an affair that included physical relations for the last nine months. The couple was together as recently as December 1.

Happy, the heroine of “Kichhu Asha Kichhu Bhalobasa,” said they first met through friends and then stayed in touch via Facebook and mobile telephone.

The 24-year old Rubel made his debut in international cricket in 2009 and has so far appeared in 22 Tests, 53 ODIs and 11 Twenty20 internationals.
