Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has been retained as the foreign recruit by the reigning champions of Indian Premier League, Kolkata Knight Riders, for their upcoming season, confirmed the IPL’s official website yesterday.
123 cricketers (79 Indian and 44 foreign) were retained by their respective franchises as the time window of contract renewal ended on December 15.
This will be the 27-year old’s fourth consecutive season with Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan’s KKR since making his IPL debut for the side in 2011. Shakib was instrumental in both the title winning episodes of IPL as he took 11 wickets alongside scoring 227 runs in 13 matches to lead KKR to their second title in the ultimate season while in 2012 his 91 runs with the bat was complimented with 12 wickets. Shakib so far claimed 34 wickets and scored 347 runs in 28 IPL matches.
KKR let go Debabrata Das, Sayan Sekhar Mandal and Jacques Kallis though the latter South African all rounder has been named as the new mentor and batting consultant of the franchisee.
